Giulia Parlato wins the “Luigi Ghirri” Young Italian Photography Award

The jury, composed by Tim Clark, Adele Ghirri, Elisa Medde, Cristiano Raimondi and Carlo Sala, declared Giulia Parlato the winner “For constructing a research project that questions and interrogates the role of photography and the museum in historical reconstruction, and our role and responsibility in attributing meanings and degrees of adherence to reality.”

With her project Diachronicles, the Sicilian photographer convinced the jury for her critical spirit of research and observation. The Diachronicles project recounts historical space as an imaginary container, in which an apparent collection of evidence opens to the fantastic.

The Award ceremony was held at the exhibition Possibile at the Chiostri di San Domenico in Reggio Emilia, during the first week of Fotografia Europea. The exhibition brought together the projects by seven young Italian photographers: Giulia Parlato, Riccardo Svelto, Marcello Coslovi, Claudia Fuggetti, Chiara Ernandes, Giulia Vanelli and Caterina Morigi.

This year the Award was dedicated to Luigi Ghirri on the 30th anniversary of his death, and it is in collaboration and with the support of the Luigi Ghirri Estate.

The “Possible” exhibition remains open to the public at the Chiostri di San Domenico until June 12, 2022.
