Giovanna Brogna Sonnino

Photography for Giovanna Brogna Sonnino is the key to the most delicate points of introspection, supported by poems that are ambiguous, ironic and always sincere. The self-portraits and various intimate scenes in which the atmosphere suggests particular emotional states of the artist, delicate and often compromised by an air of indeterminacy, constitute the visual notes of a philosophical mode with which to investigate and taste life and its most bitter parts: those coming from silence with oneself. They are intimate images, often capturing a single detail, of an interior, of a landscape, of people, of self.

Giovanna Brogna Sonnino is a versatile author with a broad cultural horizon who loves to trespass between techniques and languages that often cross paths. In the late 1970s, after her training in art history between Florence and Catania, Brogna Sonnino moved to Rome, where she became interested in the world of film and television thanks to her specialization as a cinematographer. In the same years she devoted herself to photography but her first exhibition was in 1986. Her work for the national Italian broadcast television was combined with an equally prolific one as an independent author and producer who never abandoned the imprinting of cinema given by the combination of narrative and rhythm.
