Mise en Scène, images and books from the Collezione Donata Pizzi, curated by Luca Panaro

The exhibition presents a selection of artist publications, videos and photographs from the Collezione Donata Pizzi.
Through the photographs and books on display, we look at the evolution of photographic language, from the pioneering images of Lisetta Carmi, to the experimental works of Marina Ballo Charmet and Alessandra Spranzi, to the more recent linguistic exercises of Claudia Petraroli, Sara Rossi and other significant authors on the international scene.
The exhibition is accompanied by a bilingual publication, published by Danilo Montanari Editore.

From the text of the exhibition “Mise en Scènecurated by Luca Panaro.

“There is something elusive in photography, as if we were unable to understand what exactly the camera sees, what actually ‘has been’ or what the photographer wishes to represent. Maybe both, who knows.

The lightness that Italo Calvino (in his Six Memos) hoped for in the writing of the new millennium is something the photographic image seems to have conquered more rapidly by virtue of its specific language, gradually freeing itself from the heaviness that distinguished it in previous centuries.

Emancipated from every convention, photography can document the impossible, opening the door to that innate desire for staging that the medium had manifested since its origins. To these considerations we must add the role of women, which is a constant in the works of the Collezione Donata Pizzi, consisting of images created solely by female artists and photographers.

The subject that distinguishes the selection is also female, a characteristic given to this first collection of images.”
