Between 1970 and 1972, Carla Cerati carried out research in Milan on people attending cocktail parties and openings. The result was an extensive exhibition hosted at the Diaframma gallery with the title Mondo Cocktail. In 1974, the publisher Amilcare Pizzi published 61 photographs chosen from those exhibited. “My intention was to cast a critical glance at that part of our society; but I had to correct myself, since this would have led to the presumption that I was not part of it myself, and instead I was like the child at the zoo in front of the monkeys’ cage: he observes them and enjoys himself while others observe him and enjoy his amusement”.
