Margherita Chiarva
For seven days, Margherita Chiarva took seven steps in the Atacama Desert, three times a day – at dawn, at zenith and at sunset. For each step she took a photo and collected a desert stone, each of which was placed on a cyanotype-soaked cloth, symbolising all 148 steps taken during the days of performance. 7 Steps was inspired by the concept of the universal law of attraction: everything around us is a manifestation of our thoughts. The photographic gesture contains the purpose and the image becomes the link between the expressed will and the universe.
MARGHERITA CHIARVA received a degree at the London’s Central Saint Martins. She formed a collective based in Istanbul in 2014 and, back in Milan, she specialized in silver salts press research manually working on film strips with the use of chemicals as well as various other supports. Her photographic journey is mainly founded on analogic research and personal investigation through the use of images. Her work 7 Steps was inspired by the concept of the universal law of attraction: everything around us is a manifestation of our thinking. The work 7 Steps is a symbolic ritual the artist performed in the Chilean desert of Atacama. The photographic gesture contains the purpose and the image becomes the link between the expressed will and the universe. *She was born in Milan, where she lives and works.
