A fashion photographer, Malena Mazza has worked for the international editions of major magazines such as Elle and Marie Claire between from the late eighties to the late 1990s. The 13 images in the collection come from various photographic sets and testify to the freedom of form and content, the energy and passion of this woman who has worked in an industry that has always been inexplicably dominated by male photographers.
MALENA MAZZA is a fashion photographer and author of TV commercials for fashion, beauty and design, in addition to directing video clips and TV programmes. She began her career in 1982 working as an assistant director to important directors such as the Taviani Brothers, Michelangelo Antonioni, and Jacques Venait. She explores the lights and shadows of female identity and landscape photography with The Unconscious Landscape, through surreal framing and compositions that give life to visionary and introspective representations. Her depiction of the everyday among the desires and contradictions of being a woman is present in the series The Unconscious Landscape; Mothers & Sons, a tale of models motherhood in the backstage of fashion sets; Amazons, about the femininity of the transsexual universe; Dogwomen, about the social and mental constrictions imposed on the feminine by society. With her work she participated in the Venice Biennale in 1995 and 2011. *She was born in Bologna, and lives and works in Milan.
